My First Lightning Photo
We had a very intense thunderstorm in the Bay Area last Saturday night. At the first crack of thunder I ran out the door with my camera. Here's the result:
Pretty cool, but I lost many more opportunities. For this I shot on manual focus, f/3.5, ISO 160 and 20s. What I should have done is turn off the in camera noise reduction. That 20 second exposure was good to pick up a single bolt of lightning, however that cost 20 additional seconds of noise reduction with the shutter closed while many more lightning strikes were going off all around me. Yes, all around me. I was in the middle of the storm cell. That made me decide to hide out in my mobile Faraday cage of a car for a few minutes while the storm passed.
